KY SkillsUSA Foundation

Built for KY SkillsUSA Foundation, Inc. in Nonprofit / Education / Workforce Development

A nonprofit that existed on paper and in emails now has a professional website where donors give in 60 seconds, alumni sign up automatically, and grant committees see a real organization - not a Google dead end.

KY SkillsUSA Foundation

Project Overview

The KY SkillsUSA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds skilled trades education across Kentucky — welding, automotive, healthcare, aviation, culinary, and more. They support students competing at state and national levels, fund leadership training, provide scholarships, and cover the extras that school budgets don't. Their work helps Kentucky students turn classroom training into real careers. The problem: the Foundation had no web presence. Information about who they are, what they fund, and how to support them lived in emails, word-of-mouth, and paper trails. There was no way for alumni to reconnect, no simple way to accept donations online, and no central place for potential supporters to learn what the Foundation actually does. Board members had to field basic questions manually. For an organization trying to grow its donor base and build an alumni network from scratch, being invisible online was a serious bottleneck. Now a potential donor, corporate sponsor, or grant committee can land on a professional site, immediately understand the mission, see exactly where their money goes — competition travel, scholarships, leadership training, awards — and donate with a credit card or PayPal in under 60 seconds. Before, someone who wanted to give had to track down a board member and mail a check. Now there's a big, clear "Donate" button on every page. The alumni network builds itself. Former SkillsUSA Kentucky members scattered across the state can sign up, share where they work now, and tell their story — and every submission goes straight into a database and triggers an email notification to the board. No spreadsheets, no lost emails. They even have a posted opening for an Alumni President with an "I'm interested" button that collects applications automatically. The alumni network grows while the board sleeps. The history page walks visitors through the Foundation's 25-year journey with a visual timeline — from incorporation in 2000 to earning 501(c)(3) status in 2024. The board members page puts real names, real faces, and real credentials behind the organization. The "What We Fund" section shows seven categories with photos, so donors can literally see where money goes. Every page is designed to answer the question: "Are these people legit, and should I give them my money?" The answer is obviously yes.

The Challenge

The Foundation had no real web presence. Information about who they are, what they fund, and how to support them lived in emails, word-of-mouth, and paper trails. There was no way for alumni to reconnect, no simple way to accept donations online, and no central place for supporters to learn what the Foundation does. Board members fielded basic questions manually. For an organization trying to grow its donor base and build an alumni network from scratch, being invisible online was a serious bottleneck.

The Solution

We built the Foundation a complete digital home — donations, alumni network, board profiles, history, funding breakdown, contact forms, and legal pages — all working together. A visitor can go from "I've never heard of this organization" to "here's my credit card" in about 90 seconds. The alumni registration runs itself: members sign up, their info hits a database, and the board gets an email automatically. Every page answers the same question donors and grant committees are asking: "Are these people legit?"

Results & Impact

Donations happen online now — no more tracking down a board member and mailing a check. Credit card or PayPal, under 60 seconds, done. Alumni are finding the Foundation and signing up without anyone having to track them down. Every registration goes straight into a database with automatic board notifications. Grant applications got stronger overnight — committees can point to a real website that explains exactly who the Foundation is, what they fund, and where the money goes. Board members stopped fielding basic questions. Everything supporters need to know is on the site. The Foundation went from invisible to looking like a legitimate, established nonprofit — because they are one, they just didn't have a way to show it.
